MONDAY: An action briefing will be held on Monday night starting at 6:00 pm at the DC Friends meeting house (2111 Florida Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008).
TUESDAY: 10am meet up at Volta Park 1555 34th St NW, Washington, DC 20007. We will then march to Kerry’s house in Georgetown (3320 O street NW).
We are organizing group transportation from various cities throughout the Midwest to Washington D.C. and back for young people and their allies who would like to participate in the Midwest Unrest action.
We will be leaving on Sunday, August 23rd and will begin our return trip early on Wednesday, August 26th.
Transportation will be either by bus or by van, depending on the demand and capacity.
Housing will be provided at St. Stephens Church on Monday evening and Tuesday evening. St. Stephens is located at 1525 Newton St NW (closet metro is Colombia Heights on the green/yellow line). We are asking for a 5 dollar donation per person per night to give the church a donation for allowing us to sleep there.
The sleeping at St. Stephens is basic – you should bring a sleeping bag and pillow as you will be sharing floor space with dozens of new friends who are coming to Midwest Unrest. We will have a Uhual that folks can store there stuff in during the action too!
Some rules for the space:
- Alcoholic beverages may be consumed by special permission only.
- No illegal substances.
- No smoking in the building; if participants smoke outside, they must deposit trash in the dumpster and not leave cigarette butts on the ground.
- No open flames or cooking in the building.
- Participants must be considerate of others in the building and in the neighborhood and behave appropriately at all times, including being quiet when entering or leaving the building between 10pm and 8am.
St. Stephen’s does not guarantee the safety of belongings left in the church, as the building is used by many people every day.
Only street parking is available, as all parking lots in the vicinity of the church are privately owned; ticketing and towing are enforced both in the parking lots around the church and on neighborhood streets that have restricted parking.
Groups sleeping at St. Stephen’s are responsible for cleaning rooms – including bathrooms – sufficiently each morning for others to use during the day.
An action briefing will be held on Monday night starting at 6:00 pm at the DC Friends meeting house (2111 Florida Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008).
